In April 2015 i headed over to France traveling with Anna Hashem for her first international competition, it was really great to travel with Anna, we have known each other pretty much all our lives and go to school together so pretty cool to also be traveling to kite together.
The European Freestyle event is held in St Pierre Sur La Mer int he south of France, apparently its windy almost every day of the year, but unfortunately not for the competition!
We were there a few days before and Anna, Simone (Mauritius), Tom Seagar (UK & my Kitepix teammate) and myself had 3 days with Jean who was training us for competing, with lots of tactics for heats, we had a great time, even if the water was really cold!
At the opening we had the draw, unfortunately i drew again Maxime Chabolez, the second seed and Tom drew against the first seed, they are both really talented riders and a couple of years older than us, we gave it our all in the heats but it was not enough, and the wind did not hold for double eliminations. There was also not enough wind to run the border cross which i was really looking forward to trying!
The last 3 days of competition we were teased by the wind but it never kicked in enough to run anymore of the heats, so just time to hang out and do some fun SUP races, wind would have been better but that’s part of the sport.
The event is hosted by SNK Watersports School, its a top place for kiting in the South of France.
