Quarter 4 of the school year started off in Sardinia, a new destination for myself and the school. We all arrived in Sardinia to find that the summer weather had not quite made it yet, the first week was really quite stormy, we even had an unusual hail storm, during the first 10 days we were preparing for the comp team to head off to France for the junior world cup, we didn’t have much wind during the first week but used the time to get a bit ahead with school work so we wouldn’t have too much to catch up on once back.
After returning from France the wind delivered some great strong sessions, a few of us went out to throw down some huge loops, great fun to get a strong session after so many light wind days in the last quarter.
After 3 weeks we were on the move again taking an overnight ferry to Sicily, the ferry experience was much less eventful than the experiences of the last quarter with ferries in the Philippines.
Once in Sicily we settled in al Alby Rodinas, it’s a great location for the school with the accommodation right next to the lagoon we could really make the most of water time. We were lucky to have wind most afternoons, not very strong but usually enough for 13m kites.
The lagoon is meeting point for several pro riders which is very motivating, and we also had a visit from Sam Light.
During the sessions in Italy I was really focussing on double passes and was stoked to manage to land several KGB5’s, get more consistency on by BS315’s and also get pretty close to a heart attach 5.
We held our final school comp on the last day, I went straight through to the final round and eventually finished in second place by less than a point, Vetea took the win landing his first ever 317 during the comp, I tried to answer with a heart attack 5 but just missed it.
The school year went by so fast again and graduation ceremony saw us saying goodbye to the seniors, after two years of living, kiting and travelling together, but the kite world is small and no doubt we will meet on the water again soon.
