The 2013 Seaman Race was the first competition i entered.
Hamata is in the south of the Red Sea, with an amazing flatwater lagoon, dessert and mangrove trees on one side and ocean dotted with islands on the other, an amazing place to kite in the relaxed atmosphere of Kite Village.
The event is a week long, and with the registration you can join the testiville and race, its a great opportunity to try out the latest materials from top brands. There are several races and events scheduled, the main race is the fun race around the first offshore island, its about 12 km long and everyone can enter, there is also a long distance race (25km) around all three islands, that is inly for very experienced and pro riders as the conditions are tough, and then there are several small side events like lagoon races, big air, freestyle and more.
I was a little nervous about competing, on the first day we did a practice run of the race and that got my confidence up, i was ready to go.
On race day i gave it my best, riding a 7m North Neo kite with my 128 x-ride board i managed to keep up with most of the pro riders, and came in 2nd place from all non-sponsored riders, and 7th place overall!
Check out the Kite Village Hamata if you are looking for a relaxed kiting destination.
